This book is intended for everyone who loves the poem - Twas The Night Before Christmas.
The poem is believed to have been written for Christmas Eve I822 by Clement Clarke Moore as a gift for his children. As threads can be drawn between the poem and the ancient legend of St. Nicholas, the lines that continue to be enjoyed by so many at Christmas today, were in fact centuries in the making.
"First encountered in childhood, the classic poem remains a favorite of mine. It was exciting to discover the history of the writing and publishing of the poem. I am frequently asked which edition is my favorite. F.O.C.
Darley's illustrated edition of 1862 is a contender however, The Night Before Christmas illustrated by Florence Sarah Winship in 1954 (Whitman Publishing Company, WI.) is my sentimental favorite. The copy I own of this edition was given to me by my father over sixty years ago and I have enjoyed sharing it with my own children and grandchildren.
